MC4 EXISTS TO INSPIRE, MOTIVATE AND TO SUPPORT YOUNG PASIFIKA TO THRIVE... NOT JUST SURVIVE
Jeremiah & Olive Tauti-Stanley (Founders)
BACKGROUND
MC4 is an equity focussed mentoring project that exists to motivate and inspire young Pasifika students to realise their powerful potential and to support them to thrive.
To THRIVE means young people are;
-
Thriving in their learning & wellbeing
-
Confident in themselves and in their next steps towards achieving their goals & aspirations
-
Resilient and know how to navigate through challenges effectively
-
Inspiring leaders who lead with compassion through service to others
Our youth programmes are purposely designed and delivered by Pacific for Pacific to ensure it is relevant and responsive to the needs of our Pacific young people. Within the realms of Pacific indigenous values, the concept of establishing and nourishing the VĀ (reciprocal relationships) with students, parents and teachers guides our engagement approach. We work collaboratively with our parents, teachers and support agencies to provide an experience that will build the confidence and enhance the mana of our young people.
OUR NAME
M = Mana: The term is cross-cultural in Pasifikadom and is a well-known concept within Te Ao Māori. The collective essence of ‘Mana’ includes: strength, authority, power, leadership and diligence.
C = Connections: Emphasises connectedness (quality relationships) with people and positive things that will shape, mould, position and propel us towards achieving our aspirations.
The 4: Signifies the four principles of our leadership programme that shape our curriculum and practice, these are;
CULTURE: Connectedness to our Pacific cultural values, concepts, perspectives and knowledge develop a mana enhancing sense of identity, diversity and belonging
CHARACTER: Reflects the values and qualities that are essential for our students to be effective & successful navigators in a complex world.
CONFIDENCE: Positive internal sense of self belief & self-efficacy that is activated through courage, moulded through experience and refined through practice and commitment.
CREATIVITY: Cultivate creative & critical thinking to generate ideas, solutions & actions that bring positive change. Also to express ourselves and tell our story through the creative arts.
